According to the CDC, every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States.
Last week, one of the runners in our community tragically lost her two year son in a drowning accident. Odin, fondly called Odi, was a beautiful twin boy who loved the color blue. His laugh could light up any room and he loved his two brothers, mom and dad with all his heart. Odin also loved going on camping and hiking adventures with his family, and climbing anything he could find. He could easily climb to the top of the climbing wall in their house! Odi never said no to his favorite food, nunus (noodles) and had to drive his motorized mini coop daily. His favorite place in the world was the park where he could swing for hours and hours!
This is a virtual 5k/10k run to come together for Stacey and her family and raise funding for the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona, which is a community based organization comprised of parents, health and safety professionals and business leaders that exists to provide a forum to prevent fatal and non-fatal drownings through the promotion of education, legislative action and enhanced product safety.
Run or walk your 5k/10k anytime, anywhere from July 9 - 23.
100% of proceeds will be donated to the Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona. Use #OnwardForOdin on social media!
